VIDEO & VISUALS
This section takes a look at some of my visual examples. Over the past few years, I have been trying to work on my video making skills. From RX Radio's audio-visual radio diaries and PSAs, to the 20 Years On project, to my own Booth in Japan channel, I have been teaching myself some basic filming and video editing techniques.
Children's Voices on COVID-19
RX Radio 2020 & 2021
With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, RX Radio started a new project called Children's Voices on COVID-19 where we created PSA, captured children's experiences and provided entertainment during the lockdown. We felt it was important for children's voices to be heard and shared with other children around the world.

This video shows what the project is all about and was used to enter the UN and WHO's Reboot Health and Wellbeing Innovation Challenge - of which we were one of the two winners.
PSA: What is the Coronavirus?
RX Radio March 2020
As part of the Children's Voices on COVID-19 project, we recorded a number of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) on the pandemic that was easy to understand for children and families. I then developed a few of these PSAs into videos using various visuals and animations.

This PSA describes what the Coronavirus is.
Natasha's Radio Diary
RX Radio 2019
For RX Radio, we would create audio-visual clips of the radio diaries and podcasts. You can find another example of these radio diaries here.

"In her radio diary, Natasha talks about her medication and how important it is for her to take it. She also interviews her mom and her nurse about her condition. She ends off her radio diary with a message for her late grandfather."
5 Basic Japanese Customs & Etiquette
Booth in Japan: 2016
During my time in Japan, I kept up with my journalistic pursuits by creating and producing content for a YouTube channel and Wordpress blog. Here is one example of the videos I hosted.
Blind and Capable
20 Years On: 2014
The 20 Years On Project looked at 20 years of democracy in South Africa and was a follow-on project of 10 Years On.
Working with students from the University of Miami, as well as Rhodes University, I took part in this project in 2012 and 2013 where I was partnered with a film student in order to create powerful stories from Grahamstown.

Cue: Richard Nzwana, a handsome and well-spoken man, lives a full life. He is a father, husband, teacher, musician and music instructor, beekeeper, swimmer and skydiver. He is a man on a mission to show the world that a blinded person can still live a normal life.

Public Service Announcement 2011
At the end of 2011, I worked with photography student Ashleigh Swart to create a Public Service Announcement campaign to encourage people to donate new or second-hand children's books in aid of literacy. Here is an example of one of the PSAs.
