RADIO & AUDIO
Below are selected examples of my work in radio. They range from interviews, to documentaries, to feature stories, to audio art. If you would like to listen to more examples of my audio work, check out my Soundcloud and YouTube accounts.
Courtney's Radio Diary
June 2021
In the week of Basic Training at RX Radio, children produce content for a radio diary. These are then edited by the production team. Courtney's Radio Diary was put together by myself and was the first radio diary produced since the start of the COVID pandemic:

"Courtney is a fun-loving girl who was diagnosed with Takayasu's Arthritis and had to have surgery on her kidneys. In her radio diary, Courtney talks about her experience in hospital and the bullying that she suffered when she went back to school."
Zaahra's experience during COVID-19
February 2021
As part of the Children's Voices on COVID-19 project, children would share their experiences during the global pandemic and often spoke about how the lockdown has affected their lives. As producers, we would help the children express their stories and we would edit them to improve their flow. Take a listen to one example of an experience I put together.
The Right to Dignity and Respect: Bullying
January 2020
The RX Radio Health Promotion Podcasts, named My Health Journey, tell the experiences of patients and parents in the hospital, with each episode focusing on a different illness/condition. Each episode is intended to give advice and comfort to children with specific conditions and their parents, but it is also covers informative and topics of illness and hospital.

This episode, which falls under Children's Rights in Hospital, examines the issue of bullying that children with chronic conditions may face. The children featured in this podcast talk about their experiences with bullying and give advice to others being bullied, as well as to their caregivers and the bullies themselves.
Luzuko's Radio Diary 2018
In the week of Basic Training at RX Radio, children produce content for a radio diary. These are then edited by the production team. This radio diary was put together by myself:

"Luzuko, AKA Ace the Rapper, chats about how he got into music and the songs that he’s written. For this part of his story, Luzuko interviews his cousin Luxolo about their relationship. In the second half of his radio diary, Luzuko chats about Muscular Dystrophy, the support that he’s received, and how using an electronic wheelchair can give him a sense of freedom."
Jingles and Stings
Featured on various stations: 2011-2020
I have always enjoyed producing creative audio pieces ever since I began my radio course in my third year of my Bachelor of Journalism. One way that I have been able to express my creativity with sounds and words is through various stings and jingles. This audio clip includes examples from throughout my studies up until my career at RX Radio.
Positive Motherhood
Radio Documentary: June 2012
In my final year of my Bachelor of Journalism Degree, I was tasked with producing a radio documentary based in Grahamstown. As I was already keenly interested in Health Journalism, I decided to focus my documentary on the issue of breastfeeding and HIV - a topic that was relevant at the time as clinics in South Africa ceased providing free formula milk to mothers in April 2012.

"Nosimiselo Peter and Ntutu Mxalisa are two HIV positive mothers who share their trails and tribulations to raise their HIV negative children. Both women use different, and controversial, methods of feeding their children in order to keep them healthy and risk-free from HIV."

Audio Book Excerpt
South African Library for the Blind 2011
I enjoy creating stories with the power of my voice. So, as a part of a community project, I created an audio book for the South African Library for the Blind: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
